CSSF: Rural Education
CSSF, comité de soutien à la scolarisation de la fille rurale, is a non-profit organization that supports girls' education in rural areas. CSSF seeks to achieve the scholorisation of rural areas by direct scholarships to students, by increasing the capacity of educational institutions, and by bettering the overall quality of education. CSSF attempts to eliminate an imbalance of 20% of the education of boys versus girls in rural communities.
From a cultural standpoint, schooling can be seen as a foreign concept in rural areas. In addition, the funds necessary to attend school are often not available. This lack of financial support is only complicated by the large physical distances between a school and the households it is intended to service.
A Scholarship for Success: CSSF attempts to resolve the problems posed by rural education by providing both scholarships and housing that is near the educational institution of choice. The scholarships help to erase financial difficulties, and the housing makes the choice of attending school logistically possible. Each house can support around 20 students, and is maintained by local organizations. As for cultural values, the scholarship is only available if parental support is obtained.
CSSF achievements: In the period from 1998 to 2006, CSSF has educated 622 students through its program in 22 locations.
How to get involved: The program follows through the end of secondary education. The cost for one student is DH 350 per month, over a period of three years.
